Violent Clashes Erupt at The Hague City Hall Lunar New Year Celebration: Uyghur Leader Physically Assaulted by Pro-CCP Overseas Chinese Leaders, Dutch Democracy Activists Expose United Front Infiltration and Transnational Repression

On the afternoon of February 14, 2026, a dramatic confrontation unfolded outside The Hague City Hall in the Netherlands. Inside the atrium, a "Dutch Communities' Celebration of the 2026 Chinese New Year of the Horse" event — backed by the Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands and organized by pro-CCP overseas Chinese associations — was underway, with Chinese Ambassador to the Netherlands Shen Bo in attendance, delivering a speech that linked the Lunar New Year to "the Chinese Communist Party's unwavering pursuit of its goals." Outside, 14 anti-CCP activists and Uyghurs held banners and chanted slogans, protesting the CCP's use of cultural celebrations as cover for political infiltration and overseas propaganda operations.
The rally was organized by Anti-CCP Netherlands under the theme "Defend Dutch Democracy and Freedom — Resist CCP Red Infiltration." The protesters not only exposed the CCP's United Front agent network in the Netherlands, but also directly encountered covert surveillance, intimidation, and physical violence from the event's security personnel. Abdurehim Gheni, Chairman of the Foundation for Supporting Uyghurs, was choked, had his arm twisted, was knocked to the ground, and kicked by multiple pro-CCP community leaders and security personnel when he entered the city hall atrium to protest, and his flag was seized. The scenes were deeply alarming. This incident laid bare the CCP's United Front Department infiltration operations and transnational repression in the Netherlands, serving as yet another wake-up call to Dutch society: what appears to be a festive celebration has been hijacked by the CCP as a political tool.
I. Background: Anti-CCP Netherlands Releases Landmark Report Exposing United Front Operations
Three days before the rally (February 10, 2026), Anti-CCP Netherlands published a comprehensive investigative report titled "The Hijacked Celebration — An In-Depth Record of the CCP United Front System's Infiltration and Transnational Repression in the Netherlands." Based on Dutch government public documents, mainstream media investigations, and official Chinese commendation documents, the report systematically exposes how the CCP's United Front Work Department exploits Lunar New Year celebrations to conduct elite capture, transnational repression, and propaganda operations in the Netherlands.
The report singles out several key figures by name, most notably Chen Long, the Security and Venue Management Director of this year's Hague Lunar New Year event. Chen Long's public roles include:
Overseas Committee Member of the China Overseas Chinese Federation (COFA) Executive Chairman of the Federation of All Dutch Chinese Associations Convener of the Alliance of Zhejiang Overseas Chinese Associations in the Netherlands Honorary President of the Dutch Qingtian Hometown Association Member of the Dutch Chinese New Year Gala Preparatory Committee General Manager of Long Teng Limited (Chen's Investment B.V. / Long Teng)
His background is even more alarming: in the early 1990s, Chen Long served as a police officer at the Qingtian County Public Security Bureau in Zhejiang Province, with expertise in Chinese public security stability-maintenance and criminal investigation methods. The report warns that Chen Long's control over security at large-scale Dutch Chinese community events may result in the biometric data and behavioral records of attendees being filed by Chinese authorities, posing a direct threat to Dutch national security.
The report also names several other United Front agents — including Cai Yong, Huang Jinhong, Zhou Weizong, and Wang Ruoqi — and exposes how they execute Beijing's directives through overseas Chinese associations, media channels, and political party networks, conducting surveillance, intimidating dissidents, running propaganda operations, and engaging in cultural appropriation in the Netherlands. Between 2024 and 2026, the Hague City Hall Lunar New Year celebrations repeatedly featured performances of Han Chinese children dancing in Uyghur costumes, which has been identified as a propaganda tactic designed to obscure the ongoing Uyghur genocide.
It was against this backdrop that Anti-CCP Netherlands chose to hold a protest outside City Hall on the day of the 2026 Lunar New Year event.

II. The Rally: Voices of Justice in the Bitter Cold
From 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on February 14, The Hague was cold and overcast, with biting winds and a wind-chill temperature of just 1–2°C. Fourteen protesters braved the freezing conditions to hold their ground — three Uyghurs and eleven Chinese democracy activists, ranging in age from their twenties to their sixties.
The protesters unfurled a six-meter-long banner quoting the Dutch intelligence agency AIVD's 2024 annual report: "Intelligence services use cover identities to suppress critical voices." Below the banner, nine CCP agents were named in three groups, categorized as "Violence and Surveillance," "Infiltration and Money," and "Propaganda and Brainwashing." Hundreds of bilingual Chinese-Dutch flyers were also distributed, exposing the CCP's cultural and political infiltration of the Netherlands through Lunar New Year celebrations.
Chants rang out across the City Hall square:
In Dutch: Weg, weg, weg! De CCP moet weg! Wakker, wakker Nederland, de CCP is de vijand! Baas in eigen land, CCP aan de kant! Zeg nee, zeg nee, tegen de CCP!
In Chinese: Down with the Communist Party! Down with Xi Jinping! Communist Party, step down! Xi Jinping, step down! CCP lackeys, go back to China! Traitors to the Netherlands, get out!
After registering the number of participants before the rally began, police patrolled the perimeter without intervening.
III. Speeches: Exposing United Front Agents, Standing with the Persecuted
Anti-CCP Netherlands coordinator Jiang Peikun managed the event and handled photography. Multiple democracy activists and Uyghur leaders took turns speaking, with remarks focused on CCP United Front infiltration and human rights abuses.
Xing Songlin delivered the keynote statement on behalf of Anti-CCP Netherlands, citing numerous recent cases of CCP transnational repression around the world, then named three key figures — Cai Yong, Huang Jinhong, and Wang Ruoqi — denouncing them for "eating the Netherlands' food while smashing its bowl." He stressed that resisting CCP infiltration is not anti-Chinese sentiment, but a defense of all people of Chinese heritage against authoritarian manipulation.
Abdurehim Gheni, Chairman of the Foundation for Supporting Uyghurs, delivered a powerful speech in Dutch titled "Stop the Disguise of Genocide." He exposed the propaganda tactic of having Han Chinese children perform in Uyghur costumes inside City Hall, shared the tragedy of his father's death in a concentration camp, and called on the Dutch government to:
Reject the false narratives propagated by the Chinese Embassy Conduct thorough investigations into cultural appropriation and misleading conduct Demand access to the Uyghur region to verify the existence of concentration camps and forced labor
Other speakers included:
Hao Wangyong (Christian from Qingyang, Gansu): Called for a Dutch version of the Foreign Influence Transparency Act and the establishment of an anti-intimidation hotline
Jiang Hong (Harbin, Heilongjiang): Called for the release of the 709 lawyers and Jimmy Lai
Wu Xianfen (Jiang Hong's mother): Called for an end to the persecution of Christians and Falun Gong practitioners
Yu Yang (Anhui): Called for the release of political prisoners and an end to forced organ harvesting
Du Binghui (Luoyang, Henan): Exposed the CCP's use of Lunar New Year celebrations as a "cognitive warfare" tool
Liu Bowen (Xiaogan, Hubei): Called for the protection of public spaces from manipulation by foreign powers
Wei Zhijian (Christian fromKuangsi): Condemned the CCP as "the most evil tyranny in human history"
Li Qiuliang (Gansu): Called for attention to religious freedom and prisoners of conscience
Jiang Peikun (Cantonia): Denounced the CCP's use of the Lunar New Year to cover up human rights crimes

IV. The Climax: Uyghur Leader Physically Assaulted — Chen Long's Security Team Allegedly Orchestrated the Attack
The most shocking moment of the rally took place inside City Hall. Abdurehim Gheni entered the atrium holding a flag and shouting "Chinese government, stop the genocide!" He was immediately surrounded and attacked by multiple community leaders and security personnel: he was choked, had his arm twisted, was knocked to the ground, and kicked, while someone threatened him saying, "You deserve to be in a concentration camp." Among those involved were Zhang Aimin, dressed in red, and Qian Xudong. Zhang Aimin, a second-generation military family member and Chairwoman of the Board of the Dutch Chinese Cultural Movement Exchange Association, actively participated in the assault and seized the flag. Qian Xudong, Honorary President of the Dutch China General Chamber of Commerce, was also among the attackers. The on-site security team was under the direct command of Chen Long.
In a statement released afterward, Gheni explained that he had originally planned to protest peacefully by holding up a sign, but his companion Jesur Habibula had rushed toward the stage and been restrained. When Gheni entered again, he moved quickly toward the stage and shouted slogans, at which point he was mobbed. Police arrived and escorted him out, ordering him not to enter The Hague for 24 hours. He has since filed a police report, accusing the individuals involved of carrying out transnational repression on behalf of China.
Outside City Hall, a community leader who had been covertly photographing protesters was caught on camera, and responded with the threat: "I've got you on record now — you'd better watch yourself." Another individual in an orange security vest pocketed a flyer exposing Chen Long and quickly concealed it.
The protesters stated clearly: we were exercising our lawful right to assembly — they were carrying out transnational repression.

V. Significance and Calls to Action
Although small in numbers, this rally sent a powerful message in the bitter cold. After the event, an elderly overseas Chinese man approached the participants and said: "You did well. You were brave — brave enough to confront them face to face."
The CCP's United Front Department has turned Lunar New Year celebrations into a tool of infiltration, posing a serious threat to Dutch democratic institutions and the safety of the Chinese community. That Chen Long — a former public security officer — now controls security at these events raises a deeply troubling question: has the safety of Dutch public spaces already fallen into the hands of Beijing's agents?
We call upon:
The Dutch government and AIVD to conduct thorough investigations into the funding sources and security team backgrounds of the Hague Lunar New Year events City Hall to stop providing venues for United Front propaganda activities The enactment of stronger foreign agent registration laws and anti-transnational repression mechanisms The protection of all dissidents and ethnic minorities living in the Netherlands
Freedom is not free. Today's silence is tomorrow's slavery. Dutch society must wake up: resisting CCP red infiltration is defending the democratic freedom we all share.
