Autogenocide: Concentration Camps for Ethnic Majority

By:Tang Wei(唐偉)

Besides Xinjiang concentration camps for Uyghurs, under Chinese Communist Party and its supreme leader Xi Jinping’s autocratic rule, Han communities also have a trend of becoming concentration camps. This trend further confirms the authenticity of Xinjiang concentration camps from the side. When a regime even tries to manage its ethnic majority in concentration camps, the existence of ethnic minority’s concentration camps will be irrefutable. I will disclose this trend from many perspectives:

1. In many Han communities and villages, WeChat group that includes both community officials and residents is established. Such group is not a place for ordinary residents to communicate or express their opinions to officials. It’s for CCP's community officials to give orders (not policies, because they haven't gone through a formal policy issuance process), or pass on orders from superior officials, and command residents to report information. So WeChat group is widely used as an digital supervision and manipulation tool in Han communities.

2. Community officials often have “confidential meetings”, that is, community officials have secret meetings with their superiors, and superiors give secret instructions and orders, and community officials pass them to ordinary residents. The community is not a confidential institution, so there is no need to keep it secret at all. The main purpose of this is to prevent superior officials from being criticized or held accountable for wrong or inhumane decisions. This kind of secret order will make the community more like a barrack or concentration camp.

3. CCP sends many “poverty alleviation staffs” to ordinary Han families, in the name of “helping poverty alleviation”. This is similar to its practice in Xinjiang (they sent officials to Uyghur families), which is aimed to monitor and control these families.

4. The wide transformation from “Residents’ committee" to ”Party-Mass Service Center”. ”Residents’ committee” was once an autonomous organization for community residents. In this organization, residents have right to elect officials to manage the community. But after Xi Jinping took office, CCP started to transform this kind of organizations to ”Party-Mass Service Center”. Of course, it‘s not for CCP to ”serve“ the mass, but to monitor and control the mass.

5. CCP has created a position called “Grid worker” in communities. This practice is just like “Baojia system” in ancient China. The function of Grid workers is similar to ”Party-Mass Service Center”: monitor and control residents in communities.

The transformation of Han community to concentration camp reached its peak during the pandemic. The outbreak of pandemic is just due to autocratic governing of CCP, but after that, it did not apologize at all, but took advantage of pandemic to strengthen its autocracy. So you can see how shameless CCP is. During the pandemic, the guards of Han communities just turned into jailers. The guards are paid by residents to keep communities safe, but they could treat their employers as prisoners. In the name of “Prevent epidemics”, the guards blocked most residents in the community, prohibited most outsiders from entering, and strictly checked the very few people entering and leaving the community. Epidemic prevention workers, widely known as “Big White” in China, are arrogant and domineering in communities, just similar to the Gestapo. They arbitrarily blocked the residents’ homes and prohibited them from going out, just by claiming that they may be infected and need to be quarantined. For residents infected with the coronavirus, CCP detained them in the name of “centralized isolation”.

In fact, CCP has repeatedly organized henchmen to persecute and enslave residents in various names. Such henchmen play an important role in CCP's promotion of (Quasi) concentration camps. Aside from the above-mentioned epidemic prevention workers, “family planning workers” that begins to prevail in the 1980s, is once a nightmare in Han communities. In the name of implementing family planning, the family planning workers force the families who exceed the birth limit to have abortions and ligate, and fine or confiscate their belongings (in extreme cases, directly push down their houses).

Before Xinjiang concentration camps, CCP has established concentration camps in Han districts for many times in history, like May Seventh Cadre School, Jiabiangou Labor Camp, and Zhangmutou detention center. These may be Xi Jinping's inspiration for establishing concentration camps in Xinjiang. In China, the “concentration camp” is not merely a genocide to ethnic minorities, but a “common practice” that CCP constantly copy and paste in order to maintain its autocratic rule. CCP has applied this cruel practice to Han people, Tibetans, Uyghurs and Hong Kong people. Moreover, if it controls Taiwan in the future, it will probably apply it to Taiwanese. Therefore, Xinjiang concentration camp is not an isolated incident, but a part of CCP’s persecution to all ethnic groups, both the majority and minority in China.
